Leading UK-based distributor Banijay Rights has acquired the rights to a brand new factual programme which promises to reveal new truths behind Princess Diana’s death.

Produced by Tony Comiti for M6 in France, Diana: The Truth Behind Her Death (w/t) is a 1 x 60’ minute film which unlocks the answers to Diana’s fate through a series of shocking revelations.  The film features exclusive testimony from contributors and witnesses, including members of the investigation team and emergency services who were first to arrive on the scene of the crash in the Alma tunnel, some of whom have never spoken before. The film also used professional stunt teams to reconstruct key events to help understand what really happened.

AMC Networks’ premium streaming services Shudder and Sundance Now have today announced two major TV acquisitions: Shudder, the premium streaming video service for thrillers, suspense and horror, has acquired first-run US/Canada and second-run UK/Ireland rights for BLACK LAKE, an immaculately crafted Scandinavian noir series; while Sundance Now, the premium streaming video service for award-winning films, documentaries and TV series, has acquired first-run US and Canadian rights to PUBLIC ENEMY, a thought-provoking Belgian thriller. Both drama series are distributed internationally by Banijay Rights.

BLACK LAKE follows the unsettling events that engulf a group of young friends when they visit the abandoned Black Lake ski resort – previously the scene of a horrific crime. Launching soon on Shudder, the eight part series is produced by Jarowskij and was the number #1 series each week when broadcast on MTG’s Swedish network in 2016, gaining critical praise. The show nearly doubled the timeslot average on the Swedish TV3 channel and was also available on MTG’s Nordic video streaming service Viaplay. 

Sundance Now, has acquired the riveting Belgian drama PUBLIC ENEMY, which will launch on the service in the coming months.  The 10-part series won the Coup de Coeur Award at the MIPDrama Screenings and depicts the morally complex world of a child murderer, released from prison into the custody of a group of monks, leading to outrage and panic from the community that surrounds them. 

PUBLIC ENEMY, produced by Entre Chien et Loup & Playtime Films has been praised by leading Belgium weekly news magazine Le Soir  as ‘Quality local drama’ and was the most viewed Belgian prime time show  when it aired in 2016. PUBLIC ENEMY joins recent Sundance Now exclusives such as critically acclaimed French espionage thriller THE BUREAU and Richard Ayoade’s comedic travel series TRAVEL MAN.

BLACK LAKE and PUBLIC ENEMY are key additions to Shudder and Sundance Now, with the leading premium services in their categories continuing to expand their offerings with multiple exclusives premiering per month on each platform.

Banijay Producers Adapt RDF Television's The Secret Life Of 4 Year Olds Across Europe

16th November – RDF Television’s critically acclaimed award-winning series The Secret Life of 4 Year Olds (Channel 4) is heading into production around Europe, it was announced today, following a host of new format deals concluded by companies within Banijay, the world’s largest independent content creation group.
 
Zodiak Belgium has produced a 6 x 35’ series of The Secret Life of 4 Year Olds for French-speaking Belgium, which launched on RTBF in early October.  In France TF1 will launch its own version before the end of the year (1 x 90’ + 2 x 60’), with TF1’s subsidiary channel NT1 debuting a 4 x 60’ series produced by Banijay Group’s KM Productions. In the Netherlands a 6 x 45’ series has been commissioned for launch in 2017 on NPO1, produced by Zodiak Netherlands. 
 
A local Spanish version of The Secret Life of 4 Year Olds launched in September on Movistar+. The 6 x 60’ series is produced by Magnolia Spain. These new commissions add to the recent ratings success of local adaptations on VTM (Flemish-speaking Belgium) and DR1 (Denmark).
 
RDF Television’s award-winning documentary The Secret Life of 4 Year Olds launched in 2015 in the UK, and was Channel 4’s most popular factual programme of the past five years, leading to the commission of two full series. The Secret Life of 4, 5 and 6 Year Olds series was nominated for a BAFTA TV Award in 2016, and most recently won the Grierson Award for Best Entertaining Documentary. A brand new series (4 x 60’) launched on Channel 4 in November continuing its outstanding ratings performance attracting an audience of 2.2m viewers (live data), and consolidating to nearly 2.7m to date.
 
Additionally, The Secret Life of Brothers and Sisters (2 x 60’) aired in the summer, and a further two episodes of The Secret Life of 5 Year Olds (2 x 60’) will air in 2017.

14,000 delegates and 2,000 exhibitors including Zodiak Rights attended MIPCOM 2016 this year. Based at our stand C20.A, just outside the Palais, we met with buyers, producers, commissioners and distributors alike; showcasing some of our newest and biggest programmes including: SAS Who Dares Wins Series 2, Undressed, All Against 1, Black Lake, The Accident and Make My Body Better. 

Our global hit drama Versailles took centre stage as we announced pre-sales for Series 2.  Cast members Tygh Runan and Anna Brewster added glamour to an event to celebrate the success of series 1 and to launch the second series.

Public Enemy Secures Raft Of Deals In Europe With Zodiak Rights

Zodiak Rights, the international distribution arm of Banijay Group, confirmed today that it has signed a slew of new European deals for its hit French language drama Public Enemy.

Produced by Belgian’s Entre Chien et Loup and Playtime Films for RTBF Belgium, the 10 x 60’ drama Public Enemy has been acquired by Sky for their premium channel Sky Atlantic in both the UK and Germany; free to air broadcaster TF1 in France; Movistar Series Xtra and Movistar VOD, Spain; Ale Kino Channel (Canal + Group), Poland and will air on top Scandinavian broadcaster C More’s linear and premium SVOD services in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark.

Winner of the hotly contested inaugural MIPDrama Screenings Buyers’ ‘Coup de Coeur’ Award and a primetime ratings hit for RTBF Belgium, securing an audience share of more than 25%, Public Enemy centres on the story of Guy Béranger, a dangerous child murderer at the end of his prison sentence. His release on parole to the custody of the monks at Vielsart Abbey leads to an outcry from the nearby small village and to the rest of the country. But when a young girl disappears on the outskirts of the Abbey, the entire village is in uproar.

Format Hit Undressed Zips Into Major Territories As Banijay Group Unveils New Formats For MIPCOM

Paris, 4th October Banijay Group has licensed the international primetime hit format Undressed, which has already been seen by more than 25 million* viewers, to a raft of additional key territories.

The innovative format is heading to Spain for free to air channel Dkiss with a 20 x 30’ series produced by Banijay Group’s Magnolia Spain and in France a 6 x 45’ series of Undressed has been produced by Banijay’s ALP for NRJ12. Both series will air later this year. An Australian version of Undressed (20 x 30’) is in production with Banijay’s Screentime for SBS.

In Italy, youth skewing channel Nove has commissioned two further seasons of the popular format from Magnolia Italy, the original creator.  Series 3, which will air this autumn, is 25 x 30’ and series 4, which is set for broadcast in 2017, is a 50 episode order bringing the total number of Italian episodes available to 155 x 30’. 

This news follows the recent announcement of a second 20 x 30’ series of Undressed, produced by Fizz, part of Banijay Group’s RDF Television, for TLC for the UK, which is already in production following a successful first series.  A 12 x 30’ series has previously aired in the Netherlands produced by Zodiak Nederland for TLC.

 Banijay Group’s distribution arm, Zodiak Rights, has licensed a 12 x 30’ series of Undressed to be produced by ATM Grupa for TLC in Poland.  Alongside this raft of format deals for Undressed, Zodiak Rights has already started inking deals for these new international finished versions, as it launches the Italian, UK, Australian and Polish adaptations to the global market at MIPCOM.

Grant Ross, EVP Global Creative Development & Format Acquisitions at Banijay Group, says, “As we add three more major territories to the six already in production or on air, as well as other key territories about to close, Undressed is proving to have genuine global appeal and has quickly become a truly valuable property for the Banijay Group.”

The Supervet Series 3 (26 x 60’) shows life at a cutting-edge veterinary hospital and reveals the dedication of captivating vet Noel Fitzpatrick and his team of experts as they go the extra mile to help vulnerable pets.  The third series of this heart-warming and emotional show has been acquired by SBS Australia, Sky New Zealand, BBC Earth in Asia and South Africa, Viasat World for pan Eastern Europe, Kanal 2 Estonia, SVT Sweden, Numero 23 in France, Manoto TV for Iran, SIC MULHER Portugal,  AMC Networks International Iberia  for Odisea Spain.   Since launch The Supervet has reached more than 22 million viewers - nearly 40% of the UK population.

Zodiak Kids Takes Tee & Mo to BLE

Zodiak Kids announces today that they have taken on the consumer products rights for new CBeebies pre-school series Tee & Mo and will be showcasing the property at BLE.

Tee and Mo is the story of a little monkey named Tee, and his first time monkey mum Mo – and how they navigate the daily ebbs and flows of jungle life. Tee and Mo helps kids expand their critical thinking and problem solving skills, showing how both parent and child approach everyday life.

CBeebies have commissioned a 50 x 7 minute 2D- animated series from BAFTA Winning UK production company Plug-in Media and Canada’s Radical Sheep Productions, a division of Boat Rocker Studios. The deal was brokered by Serious Lunch’s Genevieve Dexter. Canadian broadcasters TVOKids and Knowledge Kids are also on board for the series.

The property has already had online success for CBeebies with games, shorts and music videos. These shorts secured the Prix Jeunesse, a prestigious children’s television award, win for Best Interstitials earlier this year.

Lionsgate Secures All Rights To Chiller Thriller Wolf Creek For The Americas

Zodiak Rights, the distribution arm of Banijay Group, has licensed all North and Latin American rights of the one-hour psychological thriller Wolf Creek to Lionsgate, it was announced today by Caroline Torrance, Head of Scripted at Zodiak Rights. 

 Lionsgate has licensed the series to its Pop TV joint venture with CBS, a nationally distributed network seen in over 80 million homes.  Pop will premiere Wolf Creek in the United States on Friday, October 14 at 10:00 p.m., ET/PT.

 Based on the international hit feature film of the same name, John Jarratt reprises his role as murdering psychopath Mick Taylor, wreaking havoc in the Australian Outback, Wolf Creek, is a STAN original series.  Adapted for television by Peter Gawler, Greg McLean and Felicity Packard, Wolf Creek is produced by Screentime, a Banijay Group company, in association with Emu Creek Pictures and financed with the assistance of Screen Australia and the South Australian Film Corporation.

 Wolf Creek’s cast is spearheaded by the chilling John Jarratt (Django Unchained) and emerging superstar Lucy Fry (11.22.63), whose fierce performance gives the story an exhilarating feminist twist.

Zodiak Kids Secures Master Toy Partner for Floogals

Just Play on Board for the US

Zodiak Kids announces today that Just Play are on board for the unique Zodiak Kids Studios animation Floogals as Master Toy partner for the US & Canada. Earlier this year Zodiak Kids appointed Brand Activation Consulting, who have secured the deal, as the consumer products agents for Floogals in the US. The agency is headed up by Bob Traub and Michelle McLaughlin.

 The 52 x 11’ series launched on Sprout, NBC Universal Cable Entertainment’s 24 hour preschool network, earlier this year. In Kids age 2-5, Floogals 8:30pm ranks #1 among all Sprout trackages*.

Zodiak Kids Studios Promotes Hughes

Zodiak Kids announces today staffing changes at its production entity Zodiak Kids Studios - which encompasses all of its production across the UK and France.
  
Zodiak Kids CEO Jean-Philippe Randisi will now oversee Zodiak Kids Studios with the departure of current CEO Michael Carrington to ABC Children’s as Head of Children’s and Education. Reporting into him is Gwen Hughes in the new role of Chief Operating Officer (COO), Zodiak Kids Studios. Her previous remit was Managing Director Zodiak Kids Studios (UK). Hughes will oversee all production and operational matters across the UK and France. The transition will take place later this year.

Hughes will work alongside Eryk Casemiro Chief Creative Officer (CCO) Zodiak Kids Studios who heads up development teams across both territories. She will also work with BenoÎt Runel Managing Director Zodiak Kids Studios (France). 

Zodiak Kids Studios continues to sit alongside Zodiak Kids Distribution and Consumer Products teams.

Zodiak Kids has secured further sales for Get Blake! including Spain and the Middle East. The announcement comes after the Zodiak Kids Studios produced series premiered on Gulli in France and became an immediate ratings hit.   

Get Blake! (52x11’) is a hilarious animated comedy series developed in partnership with Nickelodeon and Gulli. Get Blake! has now been sold to Clan (Spain); MBC (the Middle East) and BBC Alba (Gaelic). The series features 13 year-old Blake Myers, and his best friend Mitch, who constantly find themselves under siege by three alien squirrels.  These “Squaliens” are sent from the future to capture Blake in order to prevent him from one day becoming the hero that thwarts a future squalien invasion.  But this trio of bumbling alien squirrels quickly learns that operation Get Blake isn’t easy as it sounds… 

The series launched on Nickelodeon, followed by Gulli where it consistently outperformed the channel average by 111%. The show was a real hit with its target audience of 4-10 years old boosting the channel average by 153%. 
 
Previous pre-sales for the comedy cartoon include De Agostini Editore for their Italian kids channel Super! and JKN Global for their JKN and Bright Channels in Thailand. 

The series boasts world-renowned creative teams with long-standing credentials in animation including director Daniel Klein, executive producer Eryk Casemiro; and Derek Dressler (Kick Buttowski, Johnny Test, Breadwinners and Annoying Orange), who supervised the writing.

Zodiak Kids holds worldwide distribution rights to the series.

Zodiak Rights' Hit Drama The Disappearance Arrives on UK's BBC Four

Zodiak Rights, the international distribution arm of Banijay Group, confirmed today that it has sold ratings-winning hit French drama The Disappearance (Disparue) to the UK’s BBC Four, alongside a host of territories worldwide.

BBC Four has signed the 8 x 60’ series, which is produced by Quad Television for France Televisions, for primetime broadcast this spring. The Disappearance – an intense, character-driven drama tracing a family’s increasing distress when their teenage daughter fails to return home from a night out – has also been acquired around the world, with deals in Italy (Mediaset), Slovakia (Rozhlas a Televízia Slovenska), Estonia (Kanal 2), Slovenia (RTV SLOVENIJA), Poland (NBCUniversal International – 13 Ulica), and Iceland (RUV). In addition, a deal with Channel One in Russia will see The Disappearance broadcast across Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. 

The Disappearance made its broadcast debut on France 2 in 2015 and was the best performing series of the year, securing an audience of more than 6 million and delivering a 50% increase on the slot average. Described as “France’s answer to Broadchurch” (Deadline Hollywood), the series also achieved wide critical acclaim and won the Best Actress award for lead Alix Poisson (The Returned / Les Revenants) at Series Mania 2015.

The Disappearance explores every parent’s worst nightmare: their child going missing, their fate unknown. Promising 17-year-old student, Léa Morel (Camille Razat), and her cousin, Chris (Zoé Marchal), should have returned from Lyon’s Festival of Music with exciting tales of teenage adventure… but she didn’t come home. The last that was heard of her was a 3am answering machine message saying: “Daddy! It’s Léa ... Daddy if you’re here please pick up!” Her father, Julien (Pierre-François Martin-Laval), cannot bear to wait. He embarks on a mission to find his daughter. Her mother, Florence (Alix Poisson), tries to maintain a semblance of normality, especially for her younger daughter, Zoe (Stella Trotonda). Meanwhile, Léa’s elder brother, Thomas (Maxime Taffanel), is racked by guilt. He had promised to accompany her home that night.


Episode-by-episode, everyone’s secrets are revealed. The police investigation, led by Inspector Molina (François-Xavier Demaison), builds a portrait of a complex young girl. Suspicion falls on Romain (Léo Legrand), who it emerges was the last person to see her on Friday night. Léa’s been missing for 36 hours now. Has she runaway, been kidnapped or murdered?

Zodiak Rights and Arise Pictures Announce First Scripted Series The Cleaners

Zodiak Rights, part of the Banijay Group and Arise Pictures have today announced the first scripted series under their first look finance and distribution pact entitled The Cleaners.The action thriller series, which comes from Arise Pictures’ writer/creator David Raymond, is set in the world of high stakes international money laundering and is said to be in the vein of Casino Royale meets Wall Street.

The Cleaners sees the CIA working with an illegal group of money launderers who are bringing money out of the Middle East as part of a clandestine initiative to facilitate regime change in the region. Joining Arise Pictures on the series is one of the leading production companies in Spain, Arcadia Motion Pictures and UK producer Propulsion Pictures. Other co-production partners are due to be announced shortly.

“This new drama could not be more topical after the recent leak of the ‘Panama Papers’, highlighting how and where Heads of State hide their money around the world. It's a highly commercial show, exploring relevant international themes with engaging intimate characters at its core," said Caroline Torrance, Head of Scripted, Zodiak Rights. 

“We’re using the incredible locations of the Canary Islands and mainland Spain to double for much of the Middle East. We’ve got some exceptional crews who are gearing up for quite a thrill ride. Casting is underway for the 10 x 1 hour first season, with production planned for later this year.

LoliRock Success in France & Italy

Zodiak Kids girl’s property LoliRock is set to roll out across France & Italy this spring. France Televisions will be launching thirteen new episodes of LoliRock season 1 early next month on France 4 and Disney France are also launching new episodes in May. DeAgostini Editore’s Super!  DTT channel in Italy will also be launching next month.

Zodiak Kids are also delighted to announce that their LoliRock consumer website (www.lolirock.fr) is currently a success with more than 20,000 sessions per month on the France Televisions (FTV) digital platform Ludo. It is a stand-alone website and can also be accessed through FTV’s children’s digital platform Ludo. The LoliRock website works on all platforms and includes videos, quizzes, karaoke games, photos and a live message board facility for the fans to interact. Additionally, FTV, Zodiak Kids licensing agent in France, have secured a promotion this Spring with Quick restaurants across the territory for LoliRock following the success of a promotion with McDonalds last year. 

DeAgostini Editore are on board as the Consumer Products agents in Italy for LoliRock and have planned a comprehensive marketing campaign to tie in with the launch of the series.  They will create a huge casting amongst young girls offering them the chance to become a new LoliRock girl! They are running a widespread outdoor media campaign throughout Milan, Rome, Turin, Naples, Venice, Verona and other major Italian cities.

Aimed at 6-12 year olds, LoliRock follows the journey of young Iris, a spirited teenage girl with a beautiful voice and an unending desire to help others. When Iris joins the girl band LoliRock, her life is changed forever, as a new world of music, mystery and magical powers are revealed. Three new friends are now bound together by their common destiny as magical princesses and their battle for justice.

Zodiak Rights Releases Wild Things Across Europe, Asia and Latin America

Zodiak Rights, the international distribution arm of Banijay Group, has rolled out its multi-award winning family entertainment game show format Wild Things - which is co-owned by IWC Media, Mad Monk and GroupM Entertainment - to a host of territories, as five local adaptations are signed in Europe, Asia and Latin America in its first year of release.

Originally produced for Sky1 in the UK, where a second extended season is soon to debut, Wild Things challenges partners to work together for a chance to walk away with a cash prize that lies deep within the Wild Wood.  Following successful adaptations in Russia and Belgium, and a local version currently underway in China, a new commission of Wild Things in Latin America is now in production by Peppermind for Telefe TV Channel at a dedicated hub in Argentina. Telefe in Argentina has ordered a 13 x 60’ series produced by Peppermind/Telefe. In addition, TV3 in Denmark has commissioned an 8 x 60’ series, produced by Mastiff Denmark. A 13 x 60’ local version of Wild Things is on air in China for Shenzhen TV, as part of a deal with GroupM Entertainment. 

Wild Things launched in the UK on Sky1 in 2015, with a 6 x 60’ series airing in primetime on Sundays and an extended second season of 8 x 60’ episodes set to launch in April this year. The first country to sign the format was Russia, with CTC ordering 16 x 60’ episodes for production by Mastiff Russia; closely followed by Belgium, where a 7 x 60’ series, produced by Zodiak Belgium, aired on VTM as part of the channel’s Red Nose Day season.

Zodiak Rights Announces First Look Finance And Distribution Deal With Arise Pictures

Zodiak Rights, part of the Banijay Group the world’s largest independent content creation group for television and multimedia platforms, has today confirmed a first look finance and distribution deal with Arise Pictures. The multi-year deal is anticipated to garner $150m of scripted content across Arise’s slate, highlighting Banijay Group’s plans to further expand its presence in the scripted marketplace. 

Arise Pictures’ original slate of programming was created and written by its co-founder, Los Angeles based British writer/director, David Raymond. Executive producer Chris Pettit, who co-founded Arise Pictures with Raymond, runs the business, finance and advisory operations of the production and finance company.

The deal was brokered by Zodiak Rights’ Caroline Torrance and Chris Stewart and Arise Pictures’ Chris Pettit. 

“David is brilliant at creating original, returnable series with global appeal and Arise comes equipped with a slate of content which perfectly aligns with the Banijay Group scripted strategy.  We are delighted to be working together to utilize the international distribution channels of the newly merged group to help bring these projects to the market,” said Tim Mutimer, Head of Distribution, Banijay Group.

“David is a fantastic emerging talent and we’re thrilled to be collaborating with such dynamic and creative partners. The first series under the deal is expected to go into production later this year. Further announcements are expected to follow.

The newly-created Banijay Group is 73.8% controlled by a company composed of Stéphane Courbit’s LOV Group (50.1%) and DeA Communications – a company belonging to De Agostini Group (49.9%), with Vivendi owning 26.2% of the total Group.  

Zodiak Rights’ scripted programming includes: big-budget CANAL+ flagship drama Versailles; The Returned an International Emmy Award winner sold in more than 100 territories; Wallander the BAFTA award-winning drama series for BBC One starring Kenneth Branagh; Braquo the top-rating French drama; ground-breaking political suspense thriller Occupied;  Irish uprising drama Rebellion for RTE in co-production with Sundance TV; as well as multiple award-winning dramas Underbelly and Anzac Girls among many others from Screentime Australia. The company will launch the highly anticipated Wolf Creek, a Stan Original Series produced by Screentime in association with Emu Creek Pictures, and Belgian drama Public Enemy at MIP-TV next month.

Undressed Format Commissioned in Major Territories Following Italian Launch Success

Leading distributor Zodiak Rights, part of the Banijay Group, has seen two local adaptations of its brand new format Undressed commissioned, one in the UK and the second in The Netherlands, in addition to a recommission for a second 40 episode series in Italy, it was announced today by Tim Mutimer, CEO Zodiak Rights.

Following a first look deal with Discovery Networks, a 20 x 30’ series of Undressed, produced by Fizz (part of RDF Television), has been commissioned by TLC for the UK and Ireland.  In Holland, the 12 x 30’ series will be produced by Zodiak Nederland for TLC.

Entertainment format Undressed was originally created and produced by Magnolia Italy (a Zodiak Media company) for youth channel Nove and, after airing just four episodes, has been recommissioned in Italy for a further 40 x 30’ series. An instant ratings hit, Undressed doubled the slot average share in the commercial target (15-44s) and has reached more than 15m* viewers in Italy.

Undressed is a hands-on social experiment which sees two complete strangers meeting for the very first time, and undressing each other in a darkened bedroom. With just thirty minutes to get to know each other, there’s no time to lose.  Based on scientific tests that looked at accelerating the process of falling in love through heightened intimacy, Undressed puts the theory into practice - will embarrassment overcome them or will they click and fall in love?

Following the recent Banijay and Zodiak merger further senior executive appointments have been confirmed today by Banijay Zodiak Nordic Group CEO Jacob Houlind.

Peter Hansen has become Banijay Zodiak Nordic Group CCO with Karoline Spodsberg taking the role of Banijay Zodiak Nordic Group COO.  Mads Ulrick Holmstrup will become Deputy Nordic Group CCO and MD Mastiff Denmark.

The Banijay and Zodiak merger brings together two extremely experienced and successful Nordic management teams to ensure continuity for this important region.  As previously announced, the Banijay Zodiak Nordic production entities will continue to work under their separate brands to deliver the highest level of creativity within non-scripted and scripted content. Current notable productions include Strictly Come Dancing, Versus, The Voice, Good Evening Denmark, Paradise Hotel, Best Singers, 71 Degrees North and, within drama, big successes such as Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy, The Sunny Side and Tjuvarnas jul.

Copenhagen/Stockholm, 25th February 2016 – Following the merger of Banijay and Zodiak, a number of senior executive positions at Banijay Zodiak Nordic have been announced today. Jacob Houlind has become Group CEO, with Johannes Jensen taking the roles of Vice President/Deputy Group CEO at Banijay Zodiak Nordic and CEO at Yellowbird. Mikael Royson has become Banijay Zodiak Nordic Group CFO.
